As I’m sure you are all aware by now the UK government has ordered the closure of non essential businesses, services and venues and has banned groups of 3 or more until further notice. BSUK have suspended all BSUK softball events, this has included the closure of Farnham Park, until the 30th April. The London Softball League continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation.

We want to assure the players we have been working hard behind the scenes to plan the season. However the safety of our players is paramount and, mixed with the growing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic in London, it has become clear a full season will not be possible.

As such, it is with a heavy heart that the committee has voted unanimously to postpone the start of the season until after the beginning of May, when we will reassess the situation. This does mean that, should the season go ahead, it will be shortened.

We recognise this will be hugely disappointing to everyone in the league. It was not an easy decision to come to, but rest assured the committee is working hard to provide the best season we possibly can given the restraints while ensuring the safety of our players. We will also be looking at new ways that we can add more softball into your summer as soon as it is safe. We might not be able to play a full season but we look to pack a lot of softball into the summer as soon as we are able to.

In the meantime, Sport England and the government have recommended that everyone keep active during these unprecedented times. Physical activity is important to everyone’s health; it can help manage stress and anxiety and make you feel generally better. The government has allowed everyone one form of outdoor exercise a day, either alone or with a member of your household and provided you stay local to your home.
